Review: Boobbix

I was really excited when I was given the opportunity to try Boobbix lactation cookies. Boobbix was founded by Katie Jones after she wanted to increase her milk supply when feeding her little one. She noticed there wasn’t much readily available in the UK for breastfeeding mums so set up her own company making and selling lactation cookies.

The cookies come in 5 very appealing flavours: Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, Cranberry and Almond, Oatmeal and Raisin and finally Date and Ginger. However, the most important ingredients are the galactagogues in the recipe (the ones that help to increase a mother’s milk supply) and they are oats, flax seed, Brewer’s yeast and fenugreek. Katie has worked really hard to fine-tune this recipe so that it contains the highest quality ingredients with optimum results.

Breastfeeding is a challenge to say the least and you find yourself constantly questioning how you are doing – is your baby getting enough? Are you doing it properly? You also constantly question your supply, especially in the early days when baby goes through growth spurts and periods of cluster feeding. I have experienced this already with Arthur who is now two weeks old, and I am pleased to say on the whole feeding is going really well. There have been occasions where he has been fussy and I felt like I wasn’t producing enough milk – so I had a cup of tea and a cookie!

Firstly – they taste amazing. I have been trying out the Cranberry and Almond (very tasty!) but my absolute favourites have been the Peanut Butter Choc Chip – they are delicious! They are lovely and moist and packed full of flavour. Each cookie is individually wrapped so you can keep one on you in your bag at all times – perfect for when you are on the move. I keep one on my bedside table for nights where Arthur is feeding loads and I get a bit peckish.

Secondly – they really do work! I noticed an increase in my supply after just one cookie – I certainly couldn’t eat several at a time (no matter how tempting!) because I would have an oversupply for sure. I was so impressed at how feeding improved after just one cookie. It is really reassuring to have something so handy I can reach for if I am feeling worried about my supply.

As you can tell I am really sold on Boobbix lactation cookies, but there is definitely a need to mention the price. A box of ten individually wrapped cookies cost £10.50. That may seem expensive initially but when you have considered the cost of the specialist ingredients and also compared this price to other similar products in the UK and US (most of which contain less active ingredients) then you can see why it is put at this price point. I think they would make a great gift for all breastfeeding mums – something unique, thoughtful and helpful. What’s more, you can get 10% off your first order if you use the code ‘1sttime’.
