Review: Milkwear

I am thrilled tell you that I am a Brand Ambassador for Milkwear, a fabulous new online retailer that specialises in maternity and nursing fashion. They sell a collection of hand-picked breastfeeding tops, dresses and jackets with many lines also suitable for wearing during pregnancy. I first came across Milkwear online and was really impressed with their extensive range of nursingwear at such an affordable price. You don’t want to have to pay a premium for an item of clothing that is essential for your lifestyle as a breastfeeding mum. When I was feeding Ted I really struggled to find good quality, affordable garments and often wore the same dreary vest top and t-shirt combination. I also found that a lot of nursing wear only went up to a size 14, and I was unable to get the size I needed. That is why I am so glad to have found Milkwear and their selection of nursing tops for when our baby arrives in January.

Now that I know what to expect when it comes to breastfeeding, I want to make life as easy and comfortable as possible, and these beautiful tops will really help. I am really impressed with the items I have received, starting with the sleeveless top in a light cappuccino colour. What I like most about this top is firstly that it is multi-functional, it is made in a really stretchy material with ruching on the side, so it can be worn during pregnancy. It is also a really good length, so suitable to wear over the bump with leggings or jeans, without being too short at the back! Once baby is here it has the nursing functionality for an easy and comfortable way to feed – perfect! It is ideal for layering up with knitwear during these colder winter months and I have found it to be really flattering. I also really like the cross-over design at the front and think it looks stylish and fashionable.

The next garment I chose is a ¾ wrap top in a gorgeous deep burgundy colour. I thought it would be perfect for the festive season and the style can be dressed up for any occasion. Again, this top is suitable for both pregnancy and breastfeeding, with the wrap element being both functional and elegant. To feed, you just un-tie the wrap and draw up the nursing layer from inside. This top is really comfortable and I have worn it on the times I wanted to look less casual, with skinny jeans, heeled boots and some nice jewellery. I can’t wait to wear it more over Christmas to family gatherings and functions.

And finally, my favourite item – the hoodie. Yes, that’s right, a maternity AND nursing friendly hoodie. I chose this item in dark grey and the first thing that struck me about it was the quality – the material is really thick and warm and feels very luxurious. I was surprised at what good value it is, coming in at only £22.00. I love being able to throw a hoodie on in the evenings when it gets cold, but none of mine have fitted over my ever-growing bump until now! I honestly think this is a genius design.

How it works: During pregnancy, the hoodie has two zips at the bottom which open up an extra panel of material to accommodate your bump – such a simple but brilliant idea. I have worn my hoodie for a family day out and it was so comfortable and warm, and the fit is perfect.

Once baby has arrived, you are able to do the zips up at the bottom for a more flattering fit once you no longer have a bump, and then take advantage of the nursing functionality. This is my favourite thing about this hoodie – you can breastfeed in a snuggly, warm top without having to hoik it up in order to feed – leaving you cold and uncomfortable. Instead, you simply unzip the hidden zips at the seam of the bust and feed whilst still totally covered up. The zips are really discrete and I find the design flatters the feminine shape. This is going to be such an ideal item when baby is here, I think I may just live in it during those first few weeks of nursing! I love my new maternity wardrobe from Milkwear and can’t wait to continue using them during our breastfeeding journey.
