Two words: Jammie Dodgers.
Who doesn’t love a Jammie Dodger. For me it conjurs up images of childhood birthday parties, with their sweet, shiny heart in the centre and that famous layer of sticky and delicious jam. My own children have tried them on occassion as a treat, so I was very excited to hear they have launched a new product that is actually lower in sugar than many other children’s biscuits available – with no artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners or preservatives. We have been sent some Jammie Dodgers Oaty Bites for the kids to try and we have not been disappointed!
The Oaty Bites are in the form of mini biscuits, perfect for little hands and mouths with an oaty texture and raspberry pieces. They are a great for a snack on the move, a welcome addition to any lunchbox or a great go-to for a quick and easy nibble. I find my boys ask for snacks ALL the time, and I am constantly thinking is it too close to lunch? Will they eat their dinner? and worrying that they are filling themselves up on treats. It is really reassuring to know that the Oaty Bites are made from wholegrain oats and are a great source of fibre with no hydrogenated fats and no GM products either! They are even suitable for vegetarians too. Ted and Arthur have loved having these for their snack, enjoyed with a cup of milk (and I have enjoyed the five minutes peace it brings, too!) I always have a couple of packets chucked in my bag when we go out in case there is the possibility that I may need to negotiate with my two little terrors. I love that the Oaty Bites still have the same fun-feel about them as a Jammie Dodger and the same much-loved and iconic raspberry taste.
Toddler snacks are a real hot topic at the moment and whilst I am mindful about the subject, sometimes we don’t realise just how much sugar is in some of the food geared towards children. I try my best to provide a healthy and well balanced diet for my sons, with the occassional treat. They are both getting to be great eaters, trying new foods all the time and very often clearing their plates at meal times. Ted is coming up to four, and I feel like he is constantly hungry – and he would prefer a picky type snack over a full meal. He has really enjoyed the Oaty Bites and usually asks for more when he has finished his or tries to pinch his brothers!
Naturally, I have had to sample these little biscuits, and they were delicious – perfect with a nice cup of tea. They come in a multipack of five and are available now at Tesco with an RRP of £1.69.
